Question about loading win 7

Hello all I have a question. I bought a salvaged sony vaio laptop thru my company I work for, that had a broken LCD and lid. I have replaced the sreen and lid and everything is great except for the system is password protected. I have tried contacting the priro owner for the password but no joy there.
The question I have is this. I bought a WIN 7 oem version for my tower last month and as far as I can tell the laptop is running WIN 7 64 bit which is the same as my OEM. Can I format the HD load up WIN 7 from my disk and use the product key that is on the laptop?

Not 2 computers with a OEM pin. Cant even load a retail on 2 computers at the same time with both activated. If if it did work on your laptop and activate, it would deactivate the desktop the next time you went to windows update.
 
If you mean OEM as in unbranded disc, then yes you can use that disc to install windows 7. When it first asks for a key though, skip it. Otherwise it won't activate online and will have you call the robot. Just insert the key and activate it after Windows is installed.
 
Thanks for the reply. I am not knowledgeable enough but let me see if I got it right. I cannot use the same product keys on two systems.
What about this. I use the OEM disk, from my recent install on my tower, and load it ontu to the laptop. When it asks for the product key can I use the key that is on the originally installed OS on the laptop? They are both WIN 7 home premium sp1 64 bit.

Many thanks for the response. I am curious about "unbranded disc" The one I have I bought from newegg and was an oem version. Would this be considered "unbranded version"?

You can give it a try. Since they are both OEM copies, the key on the laptop will probably work.

Correct. Those are the discs I use at work.
