Hey so I'm new on here and hopefully I do this right.
This is my question.
I am interested in conecting a wireless router to my high school network (I'm a teacher). I would like to know if I need a modem for it to work and how to connect it. Also my school has many security blocks implimented to prevent students from inapropriate subjects. Thus can unfortuatly get in the way for a teacher looking for lesson plans ect. I am wondereng if it is possible to while using the same internet source (phone jack thing) to create a semi- independent password protected network without the security blocks.

This is the router I was planning on getting: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0044YU60M/ref=bt_tpi_300189_1

If this post is lacking any nessisary info do not hesitate to point it out.
Thanks in advance.

I would get with the schools IT guy in this situation to figure out the different possibilities, he could point you in the right path. But if that's not possible:
the router will plug into the modem
When you say "phone-line" it sounds like your school is on DSL service.
All security set-ups are different from institution-to-institution so that is why i suggest contacting the IT support / networking guy in your school.

I'm sure someone could give you a better solution, as networking is not my strong point. But a high priority network, such as a schools, will not be easy to bypass with just standard knowledge

Edit: you would need to find the source of the schools internet, aka modem, and connect your router to the modem. Then the IT support of your school could help you with the rest. (such as bypassing school security protocols)
