Printer works fine. Have hooked up to my computer. My wife can access the printer with her computer if my computer is on. Had an idea and tried plugging into a switch i have hooked up also. Just used for direct connection say with a laptop. i plug in the printer to the switch and the computer will not detect it hooked up to the switch. question is can it be done plugged into the switch and guidelines for how.

question is again how to network the printer by itself. not hooked up to the computer.

thanks

Sorry, seen another post that may have my answer. but i am networked with the other computers and cant see it.

What is the make and model of the printer? Is there is a available printer interface similar to a router's?

You need to plug the printer into the switch. Then go into the network settings in the printer (on the pinter itself, not on the computer) and see what the IP address is that was assigned to it via DHCP. Write all that information down and then set it from automatic IP to static IP. Give it the settings you wrote down.

Then on the computer, you go into Devices and Printers, add a printer, then specify it's a network printer. If it's discovered and shows up on the list, select it and finish installing it. If not, select the method to add via TCP/IP port. Then give the computer the IP address of the printer. It will search for it, connect, and finish installing the printer.

Just reinstall the printer and tell the installer to use a network connection. Easiest way to do it.
