hi, i have a ? about memory. I am looking at motherboards and the one i have now supports PC3200 ram. the new one supports pc3200 DDR2 with dual channel supported. can i use my exsisting ram on this new mobo?
No, unfortunately DDR2 is not backward compatible. If you try and physically fit DDR1 memory modules into DDR2 slots, it just wont go, since the pins and notches are a differen configuration.
can you recomend a board that has at least one pci express slot and some pci slots. it also needs to have a LGA775 socket and regular pc3200 ram compatibilty. also needs sata and some connections for 2 cd drives. thanks
How many RAM sticks do you have? There are certain motherboards, such as this one, that have 2 slots for DDR1 and 2 slots for DDR2. They would help in future upgrading. Otherwise, this is the equivalent without the combo-memory slots.
Well the two I listed above would be perfectly suitable. Or if you wish to go with a different manufacturer, then this one would be suitable. It's all up to you. There are many different boards that suit your current needs, I couldn't possible list or research every one.
No you don't need DDRII memory to run that. Think of the card as a mini computer all in itself. It has a chip (like the cpu), and has its own memory (to hold whatever the GPU computes), and it all sits on a printed circuit board (like the motherboard). So the DDRII in the specs just describes the memory on the card.
