Question about Passwords??

Just over three weeks ago I was on the bodybuilding.com website. I was looking around reading articles and decided to go into their forums and look around. I ran across a thread called passwords and decided to click on it out of curiousity. When it opened up it had a bunch of links to several pornography websites. I didn't think anything about it and clicked on a few of the links. After clicking on some of them one of them redirected me to a webpage and on the page it had my ip address and my location. It also said that I was trying to gain access to their website with a stolen password. It said something to the effect that I was going to be reported and investigated or something like that. Anyway, I am worried to death about this. Do you think that I will be o.k. I am just really worried about it. I don't know what to do.

You don't have to be worried about anything. Some websites offer pornographic passwords for free, and when you click on the link, they send the user name and password they and try to log you in.

Usually, pornographic websites find out and ban such user names and won't let them in. This is normal, and you don't have to worry, but don't try making this a lot :D

narafa,

I have a dial up connection. The reason I am worried so much is these are paysites and I think these passwords these guys were posting are backdoor passwords. They had my ip address and my location. Seems like they could find me if they wanted too. I don't know but I am worried about it and I wasn't even trying to do anything illegal. I don't want someone to think that I am stealing passwords and getting onto paysites for free.

Well actually you didn't, you found a link, you clicked it, and that's it, you found the website telling you that you were trying to access a restriced website. There is nothing wrong in what you did man, so don't worry, and keep the internet cache in your computer just in case you need to prove what you are saying. And by the way, the ISP you are connected to will prove what you actually did.

Plus, those guys eventually are not the FBI or the Scotlandyard so that they try to trace you and get your address, this is actually illegal as far as I know unless they have permission to do so, or else, I can trace the address of any visitor to my website and make them panic or blackmail them.

Also with dial-up, you get a new ip everytime you sign in. The ip they had would be for a specifc region (northern california). There is no (legal) way they could get your address. But they could subpoena it from your isp. I doubt they would do that.

All that webpages like that use is a simple HTML code, which can display things like: you IP, your ISP, your DNS and your globabl location.

Nafara knows a lot about this. And don't worry about when it says things like that.

I am not that great expert man, I am using the internet since 1998 only. But I work for an IT company and I deal with internet everyday, so I am familiar with such crooks who try to frighten the users and visitors by similar things like this to make them never think of hacking into the website and try to get what they offer for money without paying :D

I wouldn't worry about it, they are just trying to scare you there. Narafa does know a lot about the Internet (considering almost every thread I post in so does he!:D) We both know he knows a lot about this subject so trust him.

Personally I think the same you have done anything illegal unless it was illegal pornography (you know the kinds) they won't investigate you.
