Question about RAM and BIOS

My computer had 512mb of dual channel RAM (two 256mb pieces), but that wasn't cutting it. So I recently added another 512mb of dual channel (again two 256mb, same RAM), and everything is working fine. But I am wondering, do I need to change any settings for best performance? Like in the BIOS or anything? Sorry if this is a dumb question I'm a complete noob with computers. :P

If your motherboard is to old, than I don't think that it can dual-channel, however the extra ram will do some good, as long as windows is reconnising 1 gig of ram, you should be fine. To check Ram, open My Computer, and click on View system information. Or right-click the My Computer in the start menu, and select propreties.

Do you know what motherbaord you have?

I checked and it does say I have a gig. Thanks. :)

I'm not sure about my motherboard, but I can tell you I'm using an eMachines T5026.

Some motherboards give you options to manually overclock your components... memory, processor, front side bus, etc. Different motherboards, different options...
