Yeah, I wouldn't suggest turning it off. If it comes to a point where you need to diagnose a hard drive problem it can be a great help.

I have S.M.A.R.T turned on for my hard drive just wondering should i turn it off?
In BIOS you can't to turn off S.M.A.R.T. completely. You can to turn off only one of it functions. S.M.A.R.T. - Self-Monitoring, Alerting and Reporting Technology. This program must to gather technical information about your HDD and to give it for HDD masters in future if HDD will be damaged ( read my subscribe :D) But in real life this programm can't help to save and recovery HDD's data so much. That's why you can to turn off it and can to turn on it - it's not very important before HDD's death :)
