Question about shared ram

Hi guys,
I was looking in dxdiag and it said my Approximate total display memory was 64mb, I supposedly have a 256mb integrated graphics card so I went onto BIOS and it was set to 256mb in the Graphics aperture size, the I check total RAM and it was 1984mb or so but the shared memory was only 64mb. Is there any way I can increase the shared memory to assign more to the onboard video card? I'd like to have at least 128mb.

Here are my system specs:

AMD Athlon 3400+
2gb Ram
Windows XP Home
VIA/SG3 Unichrome Pro IGP

Any help would be appreciated. :)

I don't understand you very well but the shared video card memory is limited you can't just go and assign what you want. See the Motherboard manual to know what is the maximum value for your integrated video memory.

yeah you probably cant increase it anymore....anyway why would you want to increase it?
It would still perform poor.

Your best getting a graphics card if you can...intergrated graphics are no good as i had VIA/SG3 Unichrome Pro IGP but got a graphics card....10x better.

Yeah, I'm looking to get a new graphics card pretty soon. I just wanted to put more space on it so that the sims 2 doesn't keep freezing. haha ;)
Sorry if you didn't understand what I was trying to say. Basically I just wanted to know if you could change how much of the RAM was shared.

Shared RAM and Apature size are totally different. But either way, adding more VRAM probably won't help with your freezing problems. If anything, it'd probably degrade the performance. Onboard video cards are extreamly limited, and typically the minimum amount of allocated RAM is more than enough. Anything more is really a waste and will just give your system less RAM to work with.

Okay, thanks for the info guys. Would you say my problem is with the graphics card anyway? I've looked it up on some sims 2 communities and someone with exactly the same card was having exactly the same problems.

Okay thanks guys :) I'm not that desperate at the moment, It plays far cry perfectly and half life 2 pretty well. But I will be getting a new one pretty soon so I'd like to know if there's a difference between AGP and PCI, which performs better if either?
