Question about upgrading

Hi all,

I have a dell desktop. P4 2.24 GHz, 256 RAM. I got it ilke three years ago and it is now extremely slow. Have tried reformatting, but it is still running rather slow.

Thus i was thinking of getting a new PC. The thing is I was just wondering, is it like possible to "recycle" the Intel chip? Or is it not worth all the effort to do so? If it is, what are some things that I should look out for?

Thanks in advance.

it could also be running slow because its not clean, try opening it up and cleaning it out, if you havent done so before, i guarentee that it will be filled with dust, when its dirty, it restricts airflow which can make the computer run slower then usual. And if you still want to get a new computer, you should try selling the parts (CPU, RAM, ect) on ebay and then use that money toward getting your new computer. Dont just throw it away.

you can probably make some money selling them on ebay like geoff said, plus you wont have to pay to throw them away at the dump =P it costs 10 bucks to throw away a computer case in my town, who knows how much a mb would cost :D

Hi all,

Thanks for the advise.

I am using some wierd uncommon RD ram or something like that for which I found that it is like twice the price of the usual RAM. That was why I was considering just getting a new PC.

But will try cleaning up the inside and try.

Oh, but is it like possible to extract the INTEL chip and just buy a new mother board and fix it up?

Thanks.

If you buy a motherboard with the same socket type as the p4 chip you have now then yes, you just have to make sure you get the right socket.

if you buy a computer from dell they will recycle your old computer for free

Or you can shoot it. It's a Dell.

Build your own, trust me. it is NOT hard, and everyone here would be more than willing to help (provided you've read the 101's first lol)
