Question about USB Memory =]

Well I was wondering, what does USB Memory do? Does it function as regular memory? I'm thinking of getting it as my free gift with my processor. Oh, and can I use it on a desktop pc?

It's a small portable mass storage device, but most USB drives are flash drives so it's technically incorrect to call them HDDs.
