I've been having problems with XP that is driving me mad so i've decided to reupgrade to vista (also because of Dx10). i have a few questions about vista and my com:
-would the 32bit version support 4gb of ram?
-does this MB have 4 RAM Slots? Can i just stick another 2 more 1gb RAM in it?
Looks like that MB will handle up to 8gb of ram (4 ram slots). All tho, 32 bit OS will handle 3.5 gb of ram, Vista utilize to 4gb I heard. But if you want to upgrade past the 4gb barrier, you have to get a x64 bit OS.
1. Yes, Vista 32bit supports 4gbs of memory. But you will have a little less than 4gbs of usable memory because of memory hardware addresses. Same as XP 32 bit.
thanks for the replies. here are a few more questions that i have:
-is there any major difference between vista home premium and vista ultimate (performance wise)?
-i've read somewhere in this forum that vista uses RAM by percentage. for e.g. it uses about 1.3gb out of 2gb (which is 65%) of RAM. would it use 1.3gb out of 4gb or 65% of 4gb?
EDIT: i would like to add on that the reason why im asking about using up to 4gb RAM is because i had vista last time and the RAM usage was just wow. when my computer was idle, it used about 1.3gb of my 2gb. so another question would be: would 2gb be enough for gaming on vista? would 4gb be a waste? i have this impression that 3gb doesnt work very well because it doesnt use the dual ram thingie. thanks
