Question about Windows 8.1 and an occasional occurrence. Is it normal?

Hello everyone. I just build a pretty sweet computer, and I have Windows 8.1 running. So far, the computer is very impressive. It is as fast as I expected, and pretty sound. I am coming from using Mac computers for a very long time, so I don't know a lot about Windows or PCs.

My questions is this ... every once in a while, my computer won't go to sleep, or I'll put it to sleep and when I come back to it, it is running again (this happened tonight). When this happens, it is my instinct to restart.

Tonight, I actually shut down and was planning on turning on again. When I shut down, a very fast popup error box came up and said something along the lines of "program couldn't open properly", or something like that. Honestly, my computer is so fast, that I couldn't really catch the whole message.

This happens every once in a while, and then when I restart for a second time, the message doesn't come up again.

Is this just a normal thing that happens sometimes, and I shouldn't worry about it?

Is there a way to check to see what may have caused this window to pop up to begin with?

One of two things is happening ... I am either super neurotic about it because this was the first PC I've used in over a decade and I built it myself ....

.... OR I actually should be concerned.

I just wanted to ask the community what steps they would take if this was happening on their end.

Thanks!!

Also, just some more info for you guys ...

I just ran the command prompt as an admin, and set up CHKDSK for my SSD (I run my OS and programs from the SSD). When I set this up, I had to restart, so the SSD could be unmounted. When I restarted, I got the "program unable to finish starting" (or something like this) error message. The CHKDSK ran just fine ... I didn't get any message,so I assume there were no errors?

I hope this info helps. Cheers!

Does it tell you which application doesn't start correctly? You may need to check the event viewer to determine which application is causing problems.

To access the event viewer, go to the Start screen and type in "eventvwr.exe" (no quotes) which will bring up the event log viewer. On the right hand side, expand Windows logs and then look thru those logs for errors in RED. Look especially in the Application and System logs.

Thank you for the suggestion! I didn't know this tool existed.

I looked through the logs, and I am getting errors with "Bonjour Service" .... task scheduling errors, and a bunch of errors that say stuff like "Task Scheduling Error: m->NextScheduledEvent 907516".

I am also getting errors like "Faulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\BackgroundTransferHost.exe"

and

"Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"

Other than that, I am getting a few warnings.

What should I do now that I have found the errors?

Found a system error: "A fatal alert was received from the remote endpoint. The TLS protocol defined fatal alert code is 20."

and

"The server {1B1F472E-3221-4826-97DB-2C2324D389AE} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout."

Yes, it was a fresh install of windows 8.1 on a fresh build. I don't have iTunes and I'll reinstall chrome, thanks.

Also, is it common to have a few errors in your eventvwr always, or should there be absolutely no errors or warnings??

Cheers!

Ensure you have the latest chipset drivers, and update all drivers for everything else and Windows.

yes,a lot of those errors mean nothing.im running win7 and have modified my services as to how they start etc.i also limit the services and programs that run on startup,so yes,my event viewer shows some errors, but they affect nothing on my system or the performance of my pc.
