When I turn my computer on, I cannot see any icons and my start menu is gone and nothing's working. What's wrong and what should I do? Should I do a system restore or what?
How do I restart in safe mode? I think I know how, but I'm not positive because our school system doesn't teach us much about computers and I would really like to become a computer engineer. Could you give more advice?
when u start ur computer go into the BIOS (usually done by clicking the delete key right before the windows icon pops up), then navigate using ur 4 arrow keys and ull find safe mode
That would work, except you can't use the internet in safe mode, unless you start it in safe mode with networking. Eitherway, tell me if this works.
[edit]Just noticed bebopin64 said safe mode with networking[/edit]
Start Windows, when you can see your background and the loading mouse pointer goes away (im assuming it gets that far), you can't see the taskbar or icons. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del. The task manager should appear, if not a dialog will appear with a button to the task manager. Eitherway, get to the taskmanager. Once there go to File > New Task (Run...). The Create New Task dialog will appear. Type explorer.exe in the box and click OK. If that starts up then great. The problem isn't fixed but you can at least run an online scan:
So any luck with manually starting explorer.exe? Remember, this isn't fixing the problem, this is just helping you be able to use your computer to find the help you need.
