Question for Omega

I'm about to build a new system that will support the 45nm quads and noticed that you are running an ATI card. The two boards I'm looking at are the Abit IP35 Pro and the IX38 Quad GT. My question to you is how well do the ATI cards do compared to Nvidia? This is under normal use and mild gaming. I 've been told that the Ati card drivers are not that great so when I saw you running one I thought to seek your advice. Thanks for taking time to reply.
 
Hey, I must admit I am a bit of an ATI fan. The 2900XT has been excellent in terms of performance for me, I was a bit worried about the driver issue, but when I first got my card I saw benchmarks comparing the current ATI drivers to the upcoming driver (I believe 7.9 at the time). Anyways, I had an 8800GTS prior to this card and they are both great, although the 8800GTS is a much better overclocker.

To get back on topic, ATI drivers are fine and ATI cards are great performers. The 8800GT is a better performer then the 3870, but both are great cards for the price.
 
Thanks for the info because since Intel and Nvidia can't seem to get along and if I want to run dual cards then it will more than likely be crossfire. Now I just have to decide if Sli/ CF is really worth the price vs performance. Because it's getting very costly upgrading to the new generation parts when you have to buy two of them . Thanks again for your opinion.
 
I wouldn't really go with a multi-card setup, especially with the P35 chipset (the 2nd lane is only 4x speed). I would go with a single high end card over two mid-ranged cards.
