Question on firewall

I have a question about firewall. Doesnt windows xp already have firewall given to you in its operating system.
 
Service Pack 2 includes a basic firewall. However, most people would recommend switching to a 3rd party firewall such as zonealarm.
 
depends how secure you want to be i guess, the windows firewall isnt a great firewall at all, i would STRONGLY suggest getting zonealarm or another firewall.

Windows xp pro version 2600 has the best firewall it dont bother you as much as the other firewalls do. It know when to block certain program and it does it by asking you other firewalls like zonealarm constanly ask you question weather to block this or that. Its a pain in the ass!

Thats because Windows firewall (SP2 Only) only asks for permission for outgoing applications, and the SP1 or lower firewall isnt even permission based.

LOL! the reason its not bothering you is cause its not blocking half the stuff.

Particularly Microsoft programs and processes. There are several malware programs out there that send stuff home via IE, and Win firewall won't even blink over that.

I also recommend going with a third-party firewall, obviously. If you have several computers networked, then it maybe a good idea to use a hardware firewall (either a built-in switch or router firewall, or maybe even build your own with an old computer and software such as Smoothwall) to protect the LAN and a personal firewall such as Zone Alarm on each computer.
 
Just curious i had windows xp pr0 service pack 1 before and in those version when i reboot in the middle of the processess it shows Microsoft Windows Xp Professional Logo And in this new version service pack 2 version 2600 when it reboots it just says Microsoft Windows Xp It doesnt say Professional in the loading screen. How Come?
 
SP2 replaced the build-specific splashes with a generic SP2 splash-- cheaper in terms of resources than including a specific screen for each build.
