Question on Firewire on motherboard

I need a firewire connection on my computer that I'm going to build. When I buy a case with a firewire connector on the front pannel, will that connect and work in any motherboard with a front pannel connector slot, or does the motherboard specifically have to have a firewire slot for this front pannel firewire? Thanks for any help.

I take that he would actually like to be able to use the front port that's built into the case design-because that's what I wanted for my build---NZXT Apollo cose with front audio, usb and firewire ports--If you are going to build it-it should actually work.

Thanks for the info. It's a new build, and I don't have the motherboard yet. I found what looks like a decent one that has what I need.
