Question Re External Hard Drive

Hello

I am thinking of buying a 500 Gig external hard drive (8 MB buffer and 7200 rpm).

I have 2 computers that are networked so that I can share information between them.

Question. If I store a movie on the external hard drive attached to computer #1, can I play this movie on the monitor of computer #2 and not experience any delays?

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

depends on your network connection. if you've got fast dsl or cable, it'll be fine.

or if they are networked directly (direct hardware connection) it'll definitely be fine.

put a movie on one of the computers and do as you would if it were on the external HDD, that will give you the answer.

You are trying to stream across an internal network right? Because it would be stupid to try and do it through WAN. If its through an internal one and the external hdd is USB 2.0 then you should be fine.
Word of advice on the external hard drive, I suggest you burn a 500GB internal hard drive then get an external enclosure from eBay or something which costs no more than $AU 20 including postage. That would be the cheaper option, some of the ready made external drives are a rip off.
