Question re: multi-player online Call of Duty

I've been Playing COD - World at War - and decided to try Playing online tonight.

I created a screenname - and logged in - all of the rooms are empty - except for a room that is listed in Arabic that had 2 players.

Are older games not-onlineworthy - and this is why the gamers spend 50 bucks for the newest games - so they can play online - or am I missing something here

Edit: OK - I got online - and found a game with another player. Not quite sure what the objective is though. It looked like I had a team mate - and was hunting down another player. I got killed twice and took out 3 people ( althought I htink it was the same person 3 times spawned ). Then I got disconnected from the server - and couldnt' get back on.

If anybody could help fill in the gaps of online gaming - I'd be much appreciated. What's the objective - how many people should be in a room, how do you win - how does it end? Things like that?

I can't explain the whole thing right now, but for your amount of servers issue, you should probably try to patch your version of the game (if this is a PC you are talking about).

Update the game...servers update patches also and you will not be able to see them without the same version of the game.

There are hundreds of servers with thousands of players on 24/7 for pure enjoyment.

Go to Gamersghell.com and find all the patches. Make sure you don't get a "German" or one from another language. You will start with 1.1 and work your way up to I think 1.6. You will have to download them and install all of them. Once your game files are updated on your computer...then it's time to play

I was able to get on without the patches - but I'll look for them too. I think I got a good number of killls for a new gamer - but them darned Dogs killed me 3 times. Last one scared the crap out of me cuz I didn't see it coming.....

I still want to better understand the game - right now - I'm choosing auto-assign and just shooting at whomever I see to stay alive.

I find it more confusing than CoD4 because most maps are dark brown, and every soldies is wearing dark brown clothes.

If you want a specific server, for example a bolt only server or double xp server or s&d server, go to

and search for the keywords you want, most have a name similar to what is in them

PB kicks you sometimes anyway, it isn't without its problems even when patched to the latest. Also remember that some servers have different PB rules, you can change the PB file in the server so it kicks if your name is under a certain number of letter,s, if you swear, if you have a certain console command in etc
