question regarding CMYK

Why can't a scanner scan in CMYK? I read it somewhere and it gave some vague explanation about how RGB and CMYK are viewed. That is, light comes directly from RGB, however in the case of CMYK light is reflected off another surface onto the CMYK surface then into your eye. Sounds like rubbish to me, but I'm no expert.

are you talking about a scanner not being able to produce color scans when you print? Or that the color would get distorted?
Well either way, I think it would be fine. As testament, we have an HP 4345 all in one printer here at work that can scan a file and send it directly to EMail and the color comes out perfectly
