I recently got a gts 250 and tried installing in the top pci-e slot (top meaning closest to cpu) I get no picture..like the computer doesnt recognize the card. I installed it on the other pci-e slot and it works just fine. Just curious as to whether this sounds like a defective mobo or if there's some other reason it doesnt work. Kind of wondering for possible sli in the future.

When i first built the rig back in February i RMA'd my first card because i thought the card was bad, but turns out i was wrong...

The second slot on that Biostar is the main slot (weird biostar). To get it to run at X16 the board should have come with what they call a paddle card, you put it in the top slot. Without it the bottom slot only runs in X8

The bottom slot is PCIe no.1 slot. The top is PCIe no. 2

PEX16_1 slot is reserved for graphics or video cards. The design of this
motherboard supports dual PCI-Express graphics cards using CrossFireX
technology with multiple displays. When using CrossFireX, this slot is
master and runs with x8 speed.

Plus its a 790GX AMD chipset, you cant run SLI, its only a Crossfire board.

Well you could've pick a better motherboard...

Yes I realize that but I was on a budget at the time and that was part of bringing down the cost..i'm thinkng of getting a new one soon anyway

thanks for the info strangle I do have the paddle in the top slot so I should be at x16 then.
