hi I 've never used skype and I 'd like to make an international phone call to a mobile phone (he may not have skype). He may not even have a smartphone, will he receive my calls? How is the connection quality of the phone call with skype? Is it as good as the most traditional international call??

Or, is there any better alternative than skype ? I need to make an international call to someone. He has both fixed tel and mobile number.

International fax is also okay. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

You can test your call quality with the Skype test call in Skype. As far as making phone calls you need Skype minutes or whatever that is called. You have to buy call time. Now if he has a smartphone and has Skype you can make a direct Skype to Skype call for free.

You can send faxes through the Internet for free. I've used this: http://faxzero.com/

Actually, that's only good for the U.S. and Canada. There may be others that do it internationally though. Just Google "Internet fax service."

Edit- You may want to read this regarding Skype. Skype is very insecure and people can find your IP address with a reslover. http://community.skype.com/t5/Secur...our-IP-safe-from-skype-resolvers/td-p/3782336

If you want to chat computer to computer check out C3 by Vivox. It is encrypted. http://www.downloadc3.com/

Here are some Skype alternatives. You may be interested in Viber. http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/131...ype-apps-with-im-video-calls-and-file-sharing

I should also mention that you should create a stong password for Skype because it can be hacked into. Make a password that's like H&%!6546iHJlo( store it in the program Keepass.

Looks like Viber is junk. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viber#Hacking

I don't see any BS with icall. http://icall.com/ https://code.google.com/p/open-zrtp/

Jitsi look interesting as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jitsi#Features

Have you used any of these softwares?

I have used Jitisi and is secure. My reading indicates iCall is secure as well.

This really applies to any service, but there's really no need to fear monger at this point.

I use very stromg passwords for everything. But Skype is especailly important to secure as anyone can use a Skype resolver and they give links to hacks on your password and if your IP address is listed someone could DDoS you. I could change my IP address, but many people don't know how to do that.

I used these instructions to hide my IP address and it works. http://community.skype.com/t5/Secur...our-IP-safe-from-skype-resolvers/td-p/3782336

Skype credit doesn't expire. It just becomes inactive if you don't use it for more than 180 days. It's quick and easy to reactivate though.
