Questions about what to do (Gaming Comp)

Hey there everyone i am new here and wanted to find a great place to post a forrum and the decision was unanimous that computerforum.com was the place to go.. Anyways onward with my question, during summer time i figured i would buy a new computer i used to have a dell inspiron 5100 did the job well but now since everything was been running towards media centre type pc's and the computer runs all i figured i would shell out some good dough to buy a sweet one. Being a non avid buyer i first looked into dell.ca and looked under the xps line and compared that with the alienware lines and after finally making a seemed like at the time "great priced" computer i was decieved by the wonderful world of ebay, where i realized that i could make a even "better" pc for cheaper..:eek: so this is my current set up and i was wondering with all this power what i can exactly do with it, my computer consists of;

Processor - Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.73 w/ HT
Motherboard - Asus P5LD2 Deluxe Wifi-Tv Tuner
Ram- Corsair 5400 XMS2 DDR2 3(1 gb sticks)
Harddrive(s) - 600 gb Seagate Barracuda at 200 GB each
Sound Card - Sound Blaster X-FI Platinum edition
Optical Drives - A DVD-Rom drive and a DVD-RW with dual layer drive both are plextor i believe
Video Card - XFX 7800 GTX 512 edition (just bought)
Power supply - Antec 480 neoPower
Case - Cool master Wavemaster Tower Case (Black)
Monitor - Samsung Sync master 17'
OS - Windows XP professional with service pack 2

I know alot of you are thinking what a 17, but i originally wanted to buy a Samsung 42' Plasma HPR4272, but that's 3500 and now out of my price range so in the future hopefully summer time i can invest into it, so the main question is what can i do with my computer not to brag but i know its alot of power but the only computer game i have every played really is diablo 2 and i would like to get into some good computer gaming...so please some input of what i could do would be awesome...And another question about should i have gone to sata drives? and why?

And one more thing is yes the monitor is digital and yes i do use dvi cables and not the old style, and the price tag for my comp is .....brace yourselves just under 4,000 dollars canadian, i figured i would spend about 1,000 on a great computer and then have 3000 for a tv...so that is why i use a 17" now....thanks guys

wow thats an amazing setup but id go with a an AMD x2 CPU insteadd of an intel. a 17" monitor is the norm.... and wow a 7800gtx 512 and you only play diablo!! wtf?!?!? y did you even buy it??? you dont really need a 42" screen... maby could upgrade to a 19" thats has 8ms or below to be really good at games. your system could do anything you want it too.

S**T, Amazing!
maybe u can get AMD x2 series instead intel...
your system is gonna be amazing..
u'll play every games like COD2, BF2, Q4!

And um, i think 17 inch is good, cuz my friend has 19inch monitor, its too big to see the screen. lol :D

Looks really good, again AMD would be your best bet for gaming.
You may want to get a better PSU though, considering you have three har drives and such highe end graphics and CPU. Especialy if you get into overclocking. (Yes I know I have that PSU, but my system isnt that high end). Maybe something like the PC P&C 510 SLI if you've got cash.

Hey guys thanks for the input but i already bought all the parts, and why would it be better to go with AMD instead of intel and i imagine i can't just buy a new processor and put it in that motherboard can I, and as well with over clocking doesn't that make the computer break down alot faster and one last thing is i was told to look into gettin a liquid cooling kit for it and does anyone think that it would be worth it? Thanks again guys

AMD is better at gaming, and now is even catching up in the office tasks and video technology. As long as the Motherboard and Processor are the same socket then they will work -98% sure- (please correct me if I am wrong). Overclocking is hard on a computer and with a system like that I doubt there is anything that you could notice a difference in. Water cooling is very efficient and can lower temps much lower than air cooling, if you feel like you can handle it I would strongly suggest getting it.

should of done more research b4 you did;)
and why would it be better to go with AMD instead of intel
AMD is better at gaming(read CPU 101 for more info)
and i imagine i can't just buy a new processor and put it in that motherboard can I
nope intel use different number of sockets than AMD. so you would need a new motherboard if you do get AMD.
, and as well with over clocking doesn't that make the computer break down alot faster
yes it explains more in Overclocking 101 you should read it
and one last thing is i was told to look into gettin a liquid cooling kit for it and does anyone think that it would be worth it?
nope not unless you will be doing extreme overclocking. and besides if you get water cooling you risk having a leak which can ruin your whole comp.

but since you already got everything, you'll be happy with it (but maby not the processor if you game alot)
