Questions: my comp and parents have same IP? Question on Network/router also...

Hi there I noticed My parents computer has the same IP address as mine does. Both computers are in two separate rooms.

Now does this mean MY History of places I visited are in the routers history because we are the same network?

If this is true how can I make it so they can not see my history through the router or whatever...

and if they do see this history. Is it history of websites visited or things I search up as well? Like my EXACT history logs?

Let me know... Thanks...

And like I said let me know how I can get router history to be hidden or something. The things I LOOK up on my computer should be private and gone once I delete history I thought.....

EDIT.

By the way both computers are Windows XP and it's not wireless..... It's all wired to the walls etc.....

and I just did a google search and was reading threads saying that all computers hooked to same network have same eternal IP? Idk I am confused with this type of stuff.

If anyone could explain how this all works I'd appreciate it.

I just want to make sure my history cannot be traced by them if they were to try and look up what I been looking up.

I delete my computers history all the time and use CC cleaner. But is that enough. Could my history still be accessed through the router/ their comp if they try and find it? Is my history in the router??

Like I said I am wired to a wall we are not wireless and both windows XP.....

And one final question. Say if I were to stay away from the porn I look up obviously it's porn that I am trying to have avoided. (Lol)

Will the router history change? Is there a way I can delete it? Does it clear by it self?

I've been visiting THE same sites for YEARS now on my computer.... So yeah....

OR.....

Am I okay and no one can see my history as long AS I DELETE IT FROM MY WINDOWS XP comp? aka nothing can be seen FROM my comp aka my parents can't get the history from my comp through the network router etc?!?!? (I hope this is the case lol)

And BTW We use optimum if that matters.....

So that's pretty much all I know so far that I can post. Would greatly appreciate it if someone can fill me in on some info on this.

Once again please let me know if anyone has any input and thank you to anyone who posts some helpful answers. :)

And like I said we are on WIRED network because my comp stuff is all connected to the wall which lead to our router modem and what not etc. We use optimum.

But it just makes me curious which is why I came on a forum like this seeking for him because my comp and my parents BOTH have the same IP when I go to google and type ''what is my ip'' it brings me to the what is my ip check site etc and it's the same number as my parents PC in the other room....

So yeah...

I heard all stories about people able to see history on wireless things but the thing is I AM wired... And I don't use a wifi it's optimum regular windows XP PC etc...

on a side note sorry if it's hard to understand what I am talking about.

I am a bit of a ''Noob'' when it comes to computer related stuff like this.

And like I said in my first post worse case scenario that they can see it if they tried to look. Is there a way to delete the browser history or does it over ride it self eventually or what?

Or am I okay and no one can see anything unless they PHYSICALLY go on my computer..... and try to look at my history.... WHICH by the way I always delete manually via IE and CCleaner.

Anyway I will stop typing now and wait for a response.

Once again thanks to anyone who can help on this topic :)

your porn searching is safe.

You have a default gateway and then a masked IP address from there. Look into the router, usually 192.168.0.1, if this doesn't work then type in elevated command prompt, ipconfig /all with the space and look up the default gateway and type that into a browser.

History is just on your PC.

You'll have a unique internal IP (192.168.x.x/24) and the same external IP.

The router uses what is called 'Port Address Translation' to share the single external address with all of your local LAN computers.
