Questions on a Good Desktop not for gaming...

My 1 1/2 year old Dell 9100 is dying and I prefer to replace the machine.

Recently I bought a "Boutique" machine with all the bells and whistles, 4 gig Ram, 7900GT Nvidea, Core 2 Duo 2.4...etc etc....and after 6 hours I sent it back...it had the loudest power supply I have ever heard.......louder than my sick Dell.

Now I have learned that for Office, I.E. and outlook plus post-processing Digital photos for my business...I need a sturdy maching but do not need to spend $2400 and find that it is no faster for 2D graphics and processing than a 1 or 2 gig machine. I never have done any gaming.

Any thoughts on the best machine for these needs? All I see is that HP, Dell and Gateway have all these problems and that is what I am experiencing......

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Definitely.....

....without a single doubt in my mind, I want a Pre-built and will not build my own.

Of course, that being said, 3 years ago an HP died on me and I had nothing backed up so I lost my business data that went back for many years....HP replaced it and that machine died in 4 months.

The Dell that I have now Pent D 2 gigs ram, ATI X600 video takes 90 seconds to open up Outlook express and 7 mintuets to boot up....

Yes I have run:

System Mechanic 6
Windows Registry Repair ProRegistry Mechanic
PConPoint
Windows Defrag
AVG
Supera
Window Washer
PC Cillin Internet security constantly scans for trojans, malware and all.

You name it, I even had an IT guy come out from PC Doctor and after 3 hours nothing had changed except he said it was either the Motherboard or the OS......

Rather than dump money into this machine, I want a stable machine that I can work on and do my Internet and Digital photo processing...and then a second machine for my Admin Assistant to do E-mail, I.E., Quickbooks and Endicia.com

Does anyone make a computer that works???

Thank you

Elliot

Just for internet use the dell sounds just fine. How many processes do you have running the background?

My MSCONFIG is pretty clean as I prefer to open whatever I want to stay open manually and the rest are opened and then closed as I use them.

I could not even add a new MIcrosoft desktop mouse/keyboard as it would not take it....or a Logitech....

the system is very clean but obviously something is corrupted and to install the OS again and all the products, if it is indeed the motherboard is not time or cost effective.

Thank you
