Quick Case Fan Installation Help

I have the asus crosshair iv formula motherboard, and the tempest evo case. The fans that came with the case connect to the 3 pin connector on the motherboard. However, there are male and female molex connectors attached to the 3-pin fan cable. Do I have to use my power supply cables to plug in the molex cables as well, or will the three-pin connector plugged into my motherboard do the job? Thanks.

Any help would be excellent. I am almost done with the build, all I need to do is run through everything fix the case fan cables depending on the response and I should be good to go.

I think you should use one or the other not both.

That's what I thought, but my friend who has built before said use both. I will just use the three pin connector on the motherboard
