it isnt what i would call 'out of date' but it is generally disregarded for its price. at the exact same price, you can get an ATI X1950PRO from newegg.com, which is much more powerful, and even though it is DX9.0, the 8600 cant play games at high enough graphics to appreciate the DX10 anyways, so its totally useless
You're going to have to pay $230 at circuit city and rebates take a hella long time, you're better off buying it from newegg for ~$160. And it will play most newer games in low-medium (i think) detail depending on your system.
