Quick LAN Question

So I am hosting a short notice LAN tomorrow night, and since I haven't hosted one in a while, I want to ask if I need a dedicated computer, with WinXP on it to host the internet/people on the switch?

So, can I just connect everything to the switch and it doesn't need a dedicated computer?

And its a PC/Console LAN, can the PC's and Consoles connect to the same switch?

Thanks.

No the switch doesn't need a dedicated computer if you just want them to get internet access or to share files. All you need is a switch and a router.

And yes, PC's and consoles can connect to the same switch.

Alright.
And we'll be able to see each other on the games LAN feature, right?

I assume so, since we would be able to share files.

Any other tips?

Thanks.

Yes, as long as all the computers are setup to be on the same workgroup and you have the IP addresses either given out statically or by DHCP on the router, then all the computers/consoles connected will be able to see a LAN game on a given computer.

No the switch does not, you would need a router to automatically assign IP's to all the computers (DHCP). If you only plan to use a switch, then you need to manually configure the IP information for each NIC.
