Ok, well i just brought a new monitor the veiwsonic 260mw and im very impressed with it full hd 1080p etc anyways less off the info... I started up the monitor installed it bla bla.. Every so after the screen flashes and for some reason and when i turn off my computer it automatically comes back on i have to turn it off from the mains its never done this before when i had my dell monitor in it was fine. Any suggestions help needed again thanks.

The screen flashing could be the refresh rate. If you are using windows right click the desk top > screen resolution > Advanced Settings > Tab over to monitor and raiser the refresh rate and see if that doesn't help. I would suggest 60 or 75 ish

I could not find the model you described at Viewsonic. I downloaded the manual from another monitor. I could not see anything significant; standard sleep and power-off settings.

The restart looks like it's seeing a video signal even though there is not one. Have you tried a DVI cable and using the DVI input (menu selected if applicable)? I've no idea what input you have so I assume no dedicated HDMI input.

its set on 60 hertz bear in mind guys it doesn't always do it just one off im more worried about why my computer doesn't turn on soon as i turn it off it reboots it self back up but its never done this before just since i brought my new monitor

It would help if you could add some punctuation so it's not a mindbender figuring out where a sentence starts.

If you read your first post, you were talking about the monitor flashing and in the same sentence you talked about "it" coming back on. It reads like you are referring to the monitor not the PC. Add in the title of this thread....

The manual's recommended refresh rate is 60Hz so that is in order.

How do you turn the computer off - via Windows or the power button?

ok sorry about that yes i turn the computer off via windows but it turns off, after a few seconds it comes back on :(

I don't have any good ideas. It sounds like the computer is going into Sleep or Hibernation instead of going off and then restarting. That is why I asked about the Power button which can be set to different shut down scenarios. As far as I know, if you click "Turn Off" or "Shut Down" it should do just that, no options to do anything else.

Is it actually powering down for a few seconds (all fans off, complete silence) or is it running with blank screen then restarting?

Edit: Regardless, check your Power Options and/or Taskbar Start Menu settings for the Power buttons (software and hardware). The default for Vista is sleep not shut down.
