How much of a difference is it between a GeForce 8600GTS 256MB gfx card and a 512MB?
more memory on the video card gives you better performance on higher resolutions in games
He is right, however it depends which card it's being used on. With higher end cards such as the 8800GT were it can actually play on high settings at a high resolution, the more video memory it has allows you to play at higher resolutions.Wrong(No offense...).
The 8800GTS 320MB (back in those days.. don't compare) could use all of the 320MB. There was a tiny difference between the GTS 320 and the GTS 640. To me, it points out that the way the 8600 performs... 256MB won't even be all used. 512MB is just tricking you into buying something more expensive that you won't even be able to use.

However with the 8600, you won't see a difference between the 256MB and 512MB version, because the 8600 isn't powerful enough to play games at super high resolutions anyways.
