Quickbooks Install problems

Alright so my dad's computer is having problems since we had a power surge and we are using his old buisiness computer right now to run Quickbooks Pro2007. When he went to run an update for it, it came up with and error 1603, and he found out he had to uninstall it. Upon trying to reinstall we are finding more problems. It is trying to say that it is not compatible with our version of windows (windows XP Pro). It was previously on a Vista sytem but the box says it should work with 2000, XP, and Vista. Any help would be appreciated as this is rather urgent (he NEEDS it for his buisiness). Thanks in advance

Oh I just found out it says that he needs MDAC 2.8 RTM. We can't figure out where or how to get this. We have SP2 also btw.
