radeon 9550

i just bought a radeon 9550 256MB card, and when i put the card in and plug the monitor in, the screen wont turn on. and the drivers wont install. i have an AMD processor. do i need a special card for it or do i need to do something special? i'm out of ideas
 
if nothing come on at all, then make sure that its properly secured and if there is a power adapter that is needed for it, make sure its plugged in.
 
it works fine when i plug it in regularly to my computer. but when i put it to the card it stops. i dont think it needs a power adapter
