Radeon HD 6950 vs the GeForce GTX 560 Ti

Im looking at two video cards and i don't understand why one card has such a higher Stream Processors number then the other. I was told that when buying a video card the Stream Processors are very important. Does it make such a difference or should I be looking at something else?

The two video cards are Radeon HD 6950 and the GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) . Thanks for the help
 
You can not look at the processor count when comparing video cards. AMD still uses Stream processors, while Nvidia uses a core count. while a GTX580 only has 512 cores, its still a lot stronger than the 1500+ Stream processors in the 6950.

The 6950 is gonna be better. But the 560 ti is cheaper, smaller, uses less power, and runs cooler. Depends on what you need/want. I'm going with a 6950 in my new build.
 
The 6950 will slightly edge out the GTX 560 TI. At this point look to that featured that you want and pick what fits best for your system.
 
best bet is to look up some benches on them, and also with the 6950, although i hear it has been becoming less common as the manufacturers don't like it, there is a chance you will be able to unlock the shaders and overclock it to a 6970.

What do you mean that AMD (still) uses Stream Processors and Nvidia uses Core count?

They are the same thing on both, just called by two different names. Its the way they use them thats different.

AMD sets the cores up in blocks of cores. Each block has one type of data it can process.

Any core on a Nvidia can process the same or different data. They are not in blocks.

One reason people think Nvidia cores perform better is they are eaiser to write games for. If they wrote a game just for a AMD GPU. I dont even think a Nvidia GPU could even run on it. And if it could the AMD GPU would destory it in performance.

One of the faults of AMD GPU is thats its really a more advanced technical setup. Considering most games are coded for Nvidias cores, AMDs still do pretty well. If games were coded for AMD, Nvidia would be left in the dust. They would have to increase core count and include a window box fan to fend off the wattage and heat blast.
