Radeon or GeForce?

I'm building a comp with an e6420 processor and # MSI P6N SLI board. Since the board is SLI and has an Nvidia chipset, should I go with a GeForce card (like the 7900gt)? Or should I stick with a radeon card? I'm looking at the Sapphire Radeon X1950PRO 512MB card right now, but I'm not sure if I should go the Nvidia route or not? Which would work best for me? Or is it just pure preference?

The only problem is I am in college and have a limited budget. The 8800 is a bit out of my reach, no matter who I buy it from.

yeah I think I'll shovel out the extra 40 bucks and get the 7950. It's got awesome reviews and with 512mb ram, you can't beat it. Thanks for the advise.

if your gonna get the 7950, couldn't you just try to get 30 dollars from someowhere and get an 8800gts? I mean, that's stretching your budget a bit, or maybe a lot, but just saying, couldn't you?

I could, but I was reading reviews and people were saying that this card out performs the 8800gts in a bunch of applications. It being a 512mb card does help against the 8800gts's 320mb. I'm not sure which I should I do.

8800GTS 320MB can completely destroy 7950GT

Get it....

Radeon has almost twice as much shader operations in all of there cards, as you can see here, why that is important..

8800GTS has more than twice shader operations than X1950pro

Anyway, both 8800GTS and 7950GT outperform X1950pro

horrible benchmarks. doesnt actually compare against the 7950, fyi

It's funny to see people comparing 8800GTS to 7950GT. We are telling you that 8800GTS is much better, and 7950GT can't even compete with it....

Edit: here is another benchmarks

I was referring to more budget minded and dx9 cards, I admitted numerous times the 8 series is the best out right now..

If you have budget in mind, then the card to get is the 7600 series cards, they are the best card for people who wants to play games on a budget. Can't wait to see how the 8600GT performs, and see if it can carry on the tradition of the x600 nvidia cards. Nvidia's mainstream line-up is very strong since the 6600, forcing Ati to constantly releasing now models to compete, like the X800GT which was released because of the X700 pro's dismal performance, relative to the 6600.
