Woohoo! My parents just bought me my xmas prezzie :D

Asus a7n8x-x mobo
512 mb ddr 400 3200 ram (im taking the 512 mb ddr 2100 from this comp. to make it 1gb)
80gb maxtor hd 8mb cache 7200
Lite-on 16x dvd+r/-rw
19'' flat panel crt
a swish keyboard + optical mouse
(im taking the 2400+ xp from this comp :D )

Yay! all I need to do now is wait til the 25th

Just one question though. Can anyone tell me anything about the BIOS set-up and do I need a floppy A drive to make the boot disk?

Someone correct me if am wrong but I dont think you can mix ddr 3200 with ddr 2100 in the same computer.

I believe it will clock down the ddr 3200 ram to 2100. I still think it will be unstable. Best thing to do is keep the speeds the same.

It will clock down to 2100 speeds, and i believe lesser of the 2 timings. Best to mix same speeds yes, but if they prove to be compatible it will hold you over i think. i would suggest selling the 2100 and using that towards another 512MB PC3200 stick.

true hwoever ive seen some motherboards that handle it decently

shouldn't be unstable. provided the above stipulation holds

how do you find out what type of RAM you have in your mobo? is there special software which will do it for you?
1. make sure you know what you're buying
2. look at it
3. Use something like CPUz

you open it up and look, lol
not all memory is labeled

dead link there, mate.
Works for me.
:)
mine(your old model) included?
I never mixed back then so i dunno about that board but a couple MSI ones i used in the past were ok with it ... which is surprising cuz MSI is typically finicky with their memory.

Yeah theres not much difference between the two (or even 512MB and 1GB) unless you persistantly play intense games and such without virtual memory :)

oh, so it does, lol. IE...so unpredictable.
Well I cheated (and editied it) :P

its only a dead link when you try to open it in a second window,,if you just click on it,is okey
Have you tried doing that? (or considered the logic there? .. if it works it works)

(not dissing your gift/s btw. i wish i was lucky enough to get a new computer for x-mas.)
