hi i have windows xp on a pata drive and my games on a 300gig maxtor diamond max10 sata drive ,i have got hold of a samsung 250 gig sata drive and i am wondering if i can setup a raid 0 with 2 diffrent size and makes of hdd.

Happy christmas to all.

You can, but I don't think you can go between interfaces like that. Plus to start a RAID, I'm pretty sure you have to basically reload the system. But trust me, the performace increase isn't worth the trouble of setting it up :P Particually if you don't have a floppy drive in your system :P

yep, i basically agree. you'd end up with 500gb, not 550gb...
but you do need a RAID card...

i setup an array myself, doubled bandwidth, i had it planned though :D
note: you also need a floppy drive to install the RAID drivers...

why would he need a raid card? raid drivers should be all that's needed (and a floppy drive).

If the bios supports RAID at all, he won't need a card or anything. However, I'm quite sure it won't work between SATA and IDE.

his question asks about 2 sata drives, not a sata and an ide.

just remember, you will only see a performance increase in load times with raid0; everything else will perform the same. no raid card is needed, only raid drivers, in order to make an array (which is less stable).

you can still run both drives without raiding them. it's much easier and safer to do it that way.

Oooh...hehe, I see that now :P :o

But yeah, unless you have 4 drives to raid, or you really need all that space as one drive(video editing, perhaps...) it's basically pointless.
