RAID ATA controller card

I bought a controller card, and i went into windows, installed the drivers, and then when it was restarted and shut down, i attached a cd drive. It wont go into windows, and it only shows the cd drive attached on which cable/channel. It boots fine if there is nothing attached to the card. Any suggestions? The cd drive is on a cable select jumper

Have you tried setting it to master or slave? That is what most things use I beleive(I know that's how all my comps are set...)

Yes, i tried it as a master, and it did the same thing(nothing). It doesnt boot into windows using the hard drive on the motherboard, which is what i want it to do.

try primary with only hdds, and second with only optical drives.

so if you have 4 already then

primary master - boot drive
primary slave - extra drive
secondary master - dvd burner
secondary slave - cd burner

something like that.

dont forget the jumpers.

also if you bios have ide option you might need to fool around with it a bit.

i know i had to put my satas before my ides.

Can i have them all set to cable select, or should i set them master or slave, appropriately? I tried putting my boot hard drive onto the raid card, and it showed it up, but didnt do anything. Maybe its looking for some sort of raid configuration, can i somehow get rid of the raid idea? I don't need raid, i just want to add more drives, which are non-raid.
