Raid

What is RAID?

I get the combining hard drives to get one logical drive and redundant array of inexpensive disks but can't you just buy hard drives and put them into your computer.

You don't need to setup a RAID array with multiple hard drives, in fact it's not even recommended for a personal desktop.

Theres 5103 words on that page (and I looked at it).

I don't want to do it. I just want to know what it is and an example of how its used in less than 5103 words.

basically it makes multiple disks work together as one, either mirroring each other, or striping and working together as one, and in some configurations it does both mirror + stripping.

Really, in all honesty, only really applicable in server side technology. Not really an end user technology at all, with a few minor exceptions of some advance specific esoteric users.

You know you don't have to read every single word. Just the intro if you want to know what it is will do. :P

the first paragraph sums it up quite well.

Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks, as named by the inventors and commonly referred to as RAID, is a technology that supports the integrated use of two or more hard-drives in various configurations for the purposes of achieving greater performance, reliability through redundancy, and larger disk volume sizes through aggregation. RAID is also sometimes referred to as "Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Drives" or "Redundant Arrays of Independent Disks/Drives". RAID is an umbrella term for computer data storage schemes that divide and replicate data among multiple hard disk drives. RAID's various designs balance or accentuate two key design goals: increased data reliability and increased I/O (input/output) performance.

yea i would probably would not do it.
I did it with my 2 500G HDDs an i regret it i an so scared that i will lose everything.
i do have a question thou if i have to reset my BIOS for any reason will i lose my RAIO0 Array or can i reset it then put my setting back to RAID an then it will rember it, or would i just have to start again?
