Raid

hi,
i have a asus P5Q-E motherboard, q6600 cpu and 2x seagate 500gb HDD.
i've tried creating a RAID configuration 0 (stripes) using the bios setup and then creating RAID option while booting up the computer.
after i reboot, my computer works very slowly, and im unable to complete the windows xp SP2 installation and it tells me there is a HD problem.
what am i doing wrong? is it the configuration in the bios or maybe i even connected the HD to the motherboard improperly?
if i install windows without using RAID but normal SATA, everything works fine.
what should i do?
thanks

monj

If you are trying to install raid, you need to install the raid driver at the f6 prompt at the beginning of windows installation. The installer won't see the raid configuration without the driver.

i've tried doing that, but it could not recognize any harddisk. it says that i need to insert a floppy disk with the proper drivers. i wasnt able to create a floppy driver disk using the motherboard installation driver disk.
any clues?

You can either boot to the motherboard cd and follow the prompts or you should be able to do it just by inserting the motherboard cd within windows and finding the utility to make the disk in the menu that appears.

or you can do this... go here...

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5Q-E

specify what operating system you are using, and then click on the plus sign next to others and download the first file that shows up(425.65 kbytes). you will have 32 bit and 64 bit folders in that download. Copy all files within the 32bit folder to a floppy disk, then you will have to do the f6 install again. don't put the floppy disk in until it asks for it, otherwise it will try booting to it.

Must i use a 1.44 floppy disk inorder to proceed the F6 option? can i use a burned CD instead? if so, what are the exact files do i need to copy? i've tried using my motherboard disk and a burned disk with the files i think is needed but it didnt help proceeding the windows xp installation.
im stuck at this stage, please help

You either need to copy those files from the 32 bit folder onto a floppy or you need to slipstream the drivers into a new XP install cd using Nlite. Read up on Nlite here...

You can click on the Faq's link on the left for some answers to common questions about it.

Thank you johnb35, Nlite did the job, a great program which saves much time. the computer is running winxp with raid configuration.
