RAM and PC classes

I have a 2 ghz processor on about a year old motherboard. I'm going to get more RAM once my tax return finally comes in. But, here's my question:

I've got a 256 mb, PC2100 stick in right now. I'm going to get a gig of RAM. I've heard that I can install two different PC's, but it would just run at the slowest installed. So, would it be better to: Run 1280 mb at PC2100 speed, or 1024 mb at PC3200 speed?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

I'd go with 1024MB PC3200 probably. But it still depends on price. 1gb of ram should be enough unless your doing a ton of video, audio editing.

The extra 256MB wont be horribly noticeable (and it may be detrimental if you do stuff that benifits from dual-channel)

well you might want to make sure that your motherboard supports PC-3200, and also be sure of how much RAM you can put in one slot, since its a newer mobo im sure youll be fine, but it never hurts to check, you wouldnt want to waste your hard earned money on something that wont work, or pay to much for something you dont need ya know?
