RAM bad

I have a new computer w/ 4gb of 800mhz ram. One stick will not run by itself, crashes often with BSOD when run with other stick. When it does run with both sticks it will only say 3 gb of ram instead of 4gb. When running the good ram it says 2gb. Broken ram also causes weird dots on the bios and part of win xp startup. memtest says 200,000 errors 0 pass. Do I need to send it back?

Keep in mind unless you are running Vista or 7 you wont see all 4GB in windows. And even then, unless it's 64bit you wont be able to use all 4GB.

Let us know if there are still errors when you get the new RAM.

If memtest shows more than zero errors, you should investigate. Don't accept anything but zero errors.

A note to that: sometimes when errors are show, it is due to bad configuration. It is not always caused by a faulty ram module.
