RAM Compatability

I actually have two questions:

#1: When running XP Pro, the max RAM is 3.5GBs. Does this mean that if you have more than that, that anything above 3.5GBs is not utilized?

#2: I am currently running 2x2GB sticks of G.Skill 1066 RAM. If I want to get 4 more GBs, can I purchase from a company other than G.Skill (e.g. Corsair) without any loss of performance as opposed to the performance of 2 more G.Skill sticks?

another thread that is going to start an argument about how much RAM a 32-bit OS can use.

the short answer is: it depends.

the accurate answer is: 4 Gb.

the relevant answer to your question: unless you upgrade to a 64bit OS, regardless of how much RAM is install in the computer, windows will use less than 4gb.

Also, as long as the voltage, timings, and frequency of the RAM is the same, mixing brands does not matter. but i would keep one brand per channel

Thank you guys, Computer Forum has always been awesome with helping me figure my problems out, thanks so much!
