I just purchased a comp, it has 2gb as of right now but I want to upgrade to 4gb or 8gb if possible

How do i found out what type of ram is needed and what the max is. I'm reading the manual for it and it says it supports 8gb at maximum but when i looked it up on the net it says 4gb is the max. here is some info from the manual

Memory Support:
-P965 supports 8GB at maximum.
-Supports DDRII 800/667/533 SDRAM
-1GB DDRII 800 SDRAM memory module is not supported
-4 DIMMs DDRII (240pin / 1.8v)

Thanks in advance.

That tells you all you need to know. The manual says you can have up to 8GB of RAM. If you are using DDRII 800 they say that you can only have 4GB max. That doesn't make any sense to me but that's what it says.

I was only able to find a P95 Neo-F on MSIs site so I'm assuming that this is the model you have: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=P965_Neo-F
If you have the paper manual in front of you go with what it says before anything you find online.

Heh...that is weird. It looks like a typo in one place or another.

To play it safe, you may only want to start with a 2x2GB set for 4GB. You can always get another 2x2GB set later. B
