i dno if this is the place to post this thread, so sry if i cause any problems, :o but i am having trouble with RAM. i recently bought a 256MB stick of SDRAM. i put it in where its supposed to go, turn my computer on, and it gets to the windows XP loading screen, turns blue for a split second, then reboots. then the screen comes up if i wanna log on in safe mode/normal mode. i click normal, it does it again. i try safe mode, does it again. i try normal mode before changes, does it again. i cant get it to boot up right. is there something i am doing wrong  thanks for ur help

What type of RAM is it? Brand, speed, etc? Give us some specs on your system... Is it all showing up in the BIOS/POST screen?

its a 'platinum' brand memory.

SDR-DIMM 256MB
PC133 (CL3) 16*8

i have an HP now, 800 mhz, 30 gigs, 256MB ram total (yes i know its old :P)

nothing really shows up except that it says it could not start up possibly due to software or hardware changes. i cant get any farther than that. so i had to put my old ram back in for it to work

My Friend, sorry to tell you...

Some brand new Chinese SDR pc133

won't fit your HP...

Go buy a used stick of memory from someone

that let you try before buy...

my friend, but it does fit. my friend said he had to change a setting before it worked when he got more ram, my friend

are you sure that you got the same ram that your motherboard uses? didnt get sd when it takes ddr or vise versa?

If you still have your Motherboard manual, then take a look in there. That will tell you everything about what types of RAM it takes.

hmmm...ddr doesnt fit, my friend was gonna let me borrow it and use it, so it only takes sdr, but i will try to find my motherboard manual. didnt know it got so detailed about it all. thanks
