Ram install problems help plz

Just bought 2 512mb sticks to go in my e521 bringing it to 2gb total ram. I cannot get the locks closed down on the ram and ive pushed down pretty hard. Windows vista is not recognizing the ram in its control panel or do I have to do something to get it to recognize? So is my ram backwards?incompatible?

I ordered the Corsair Valueselect PC-4200 533mhz as I was told that ram is compatible with my computer.

My comp can accept 4GB max. I was told while chatting with a dell tech via instant messaging that the ram I ordered from newegg was compatible, I sent him a link to it.
 
Do you have it in the right way, try turning it around, you have to align the notch in the slot with the notch on the stick of RAM.
 
Thx for the help. I was putting it in the right way the whole time. It is working now and Windows reads it. Moral is it can be a really tight fit, and I found that getting one side clamped before messing with the other side works best. Opposed to sliding it straight on and the clamps just alligning properly.
