RAM Issue?

I just got a pc game, and it runs slow, like it jumps from frame to frame slowly. Would getting more RAM be the solution. Right now I have a Dell with 256 mb of ram.

Well, I have a Dell:
256 mb RAM
says intel pentium 4 2.00 ghz
everything else as far as performance goes is pretty much basic Dell Dimension 2350.
The game is Guild Wars.

Also

I also might get a new video card, that might be causing issues with the game. Are there any other basic upgrades I could consider?
And where is a good place to get RAM modules and Video Cards at good prices. A store online or non might be helpful. And in particular I was looking at Radeon video cards, maybe a 9000.

What Kind

My PC Guide says to get pc2100 sdram ddram or whatever, so should I get only pc2100? and what is the name I would look for:

ddr ram
sdram
sdram ddram
sddram

what is it listed as?

Both of those links are the same.

The max your MB will hold is 2 sticks totalling 1GB so you can add one stick of 512MB to your 256MB or replace the 256MB and pick up 2 sticks of 512MB or 1 stick of 1GB.

I'd just go with something like Corsair's ValueSelect... it's really inexpensive and 2 X 512MB sticks are only about 80 bucks or so.

What video card do you have now... is it AGP?

Just the one that came on the computer, I was told that I only have PCI, but I have a video card topic in that section of the forum also.

Get whatever is cheapest. You can run 3200 but there just won't be any benefit unless you are overclocking (I believe I'm correct in saying this). Just search for the best bargain of the 3.

You need to find out what kind of video card you have... PCI or AGP... then buy accordingly. In that computer you probably only have a 32MB or maybe a 64MB card. You could upgrade to a 128MB card and probably notice a good difference. If it's PCI I don't know if I would even bother though... I'd suggest looking into upgrading your motherboard to a PCI-Express and then upgrade to 128MB PCI-E card. If it's AGP then I wouldn't be as hesitate to upgrade to a 128MB AGP card. PCI is just so outdated and so much slower than the AGP and PCI-E.

Wow!!
