Hey, im planning to get 1 gig of mem for gaming but i dont know if i should get Corsair, Kingston or G. SKill, which ones better? also, will it make a big difference if i get the Hyper-X(kingston) or XMS (corsair) instead of the value ram?????

The real surprising difference is seen only when ocing. Both Corsair and Kingston are great brands while some favor G.Skill. 2gb of Kingston Value Ram is all that is needed for gaming on the stock machine here. The Corsair xms or Kingston Hyper-X do offer lower cas latencies seeing faster timings there.

When going from 1gb of Corsair xms series memory to 2gb of the Kingston value ram the noticable difference here was going from 1gb to 2gb which now sees a smoother gaming without the lockups and crashes to desktop. The larger amount of ram now sees far less problems with background services.

I would suggest Corsair, and the difference between XMS and the Value ram is not huge, but it is noticeable, If you can afford it I would suggest getting XMS RAM. Its faster and better quality, and if you plan on on overclocking, They usaly come with heatspreaders.

I've seen better results while gaming and capturing video with Kingston value ram then when running Corsair xms series memory. And yet that's supposed to be the gamer's choice? The increase from a mtatched pair of 512mb xms dimms to a pair of 1gb value ram actually saw better performance and far fewer lockups and other glitches come about. The xms and Hyper-X do offer the faster timings for high end and ocing. When comparing prices on Kingston alone there was less then a $12 difference seen between value and performance memory at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&Subcategory=147&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=
