RAM/monitor problem?

If you have bad RAM the display driver can constantly crash.
I'm actually curious about this (thread), is information that goes to VGA or HDMI go through RAM too (except for the driver).
Is it possible for the RAM to be bad even though the amount of RAM displayed is correct?
Yes. Just because it's displayed correctly doesn't mean the RAM isn't defective.

There is another problem.
Theres a swith on the MB called SW1 and when it is in the ON position(i.e. FSB=100MHZ) the CPU(AMD Athlon XP 3200+) operates at only 1100MHz but the display works and the beep is heard on start up.
When SW1 is in the other position, AUTO, the CPU runs at 2200MHz but theres no beep and the display doesnt work.
But on one occasion after I was messing about with the RAM modules and left just one module(500MB) in the first slot the monitor was on but all that was on the screen was a flashing cursor in the top left hand corner of the screen and when i used the keyboard nothing came up on the screen.
