Ram not fully used

Hello there!

My name is Angelo, i'm new to this forum.


My pc broke and so i had to get another pc which is not mine for a while. This one had a 256 of ram and so i added some ram that a friend loaned me.

So:
This pc - 256
Added ram: 256 and 523.

I've heard that you need to stick the largest one first, so i did.

My problem is that this pc is not recognizing it all, only 512 (30 off for extended). When i turn it on it says 512 and i went to System Information it says i have 1024 of ram (1gb) and i don't know why im not using it all :? ive tried tons of things (setting them on different places) but nothing works.

Can someone please advice me on what i should do?
 
So you have 256MB, but you added 512MB? That should be 768MB. Now if you have integrated video, that may be using up some of your RAM, which would bring it back down. Or your motherboard may not support over 512MB.

What im not clear on is why it says you have 1GB, if you only have a 256 and a 512 stick, unless you have 2x 256MB sticks...
 
No, i added a 256 + 512 and so that will be 256 + 256 + 512 = 1024

Also i set the internal video card to 64 mb because i really need no good graphics for a while.

I haven't been able to find the manufacturer's website info for the motherboard but i did find some info on an eBay auction. they sold this motherboard and it said it supported up to 2gb.

I have also tested the pc with each of the rams and it seems that they work fine
 
Are these sticks of ram all double sided or single or both. Some older boards had a hard time with more than 2 double sided sticks. Like say if you have 3 slots, some older boards you could only use 2 double sided or 3 single sided
 
if double sided is chips on both sides, then 512 is. The rest is single side.

BTW: i tried only the 256'ses together and they didn't give 512 but 256 :? only 1 has used.

I think they are:
512 - DDR400
256 - DDR400 - or ddr333
256 - DDR333
 
what is weird is that MEMTEST only showed 512 of memory detected :? and when i try each of the memories, each work really well :?
 
Try switching the slots the RAM is in. Or it could be your board doesn't support as much RAM as you are trying to put in, but I don't think that's the case
