RAM not working

I have a pc with the following specs:
-ASRock K8NF4G-SATA2
-1gb of ram
-2.2 ghz athlon
-7800gtx
-one hdd and a 350psu

I wanted to upgrade the ram so I bought two 1gb sticks of ddr1 400mhz ram, but as soon as I put them in the pc won't show anything on the screen. It works when I put in the old ram. Can the manufacturer of the ram be the problem?

Are you sure because the seller keeps telling me that this might be caused by the ram manufacturer and now I simply don't know what to think.

I doubt it, ram is ram. As long as the board supports the ram being installed, should work fine unless the ram is bad.

A 7800GTX has a minimum of a 400W power supply. When you had it shut down replacing the memory, did you reset the bios. I've had older boards that would freak out with a memory change without resetting the bios.

Here is a link to your motherboard on the manufacturers site just so you can check all the compatibility.

It seems you are maxing the limits of your motherboard as it can only take a maximum of 2gb and and use 400mhz.

Do you have the latest bios version 1.70 ?

If so as stranglehold suggested check your bios settings carefully perhaps even try a bios default reset.

How do you update the bios?

It doesn't work even on the integrated graphics and I read that 7800gtx has a minimum of a 350w psu which is exactly what I have.

Sorry springwater forgot about your thread till i was looking back through posts, download speccy http://www.piriform.com/speccy/builds

Go to the motherboard section and it should tell you what bios version the system has, post back and will let you know if it can be updated.

Also with regards to the ram, If the system works with the origianl ram, it could be the new ram I have had instances where the ram has been perfectly fine in one system, but when put in another system it just does not accept it for some reason, so i suppose in theory the manufacturer thing could be half right.

So you bought 2 physical chips of RAM and each one is 1 GB.
Have you tryed to insert just one and see if it works?
Since your motherboard (as others said) supports 2 GB of RAM the most.
So try both of them, but ONE by ONE.
