RAM on Mac and PC?

Just wondering, how can I access the contents of RAM on both a Mac and a PC? Both are really quite new. Windows 7 and OS X 10.6.8

sorry if this has been asked a hundred times before, thanks

RAM just stores files that are currently in use and are being cached, they get cleared on reboot.

Look at it like this. When you start up the computer, a chunk of the processes necessary to run the OS is loaded into RAM. If you click on a shortcut or manually launch an app, its code is loaded into RAM in order to run.

You can not access most of what is in your RAM. Though before you save, all of any word document is in RAM and you can access that.

RAM is not meant to be tinkered with. It is there to use, and your computer will automatically hand it out as needed. You don't have to worry about it.

Going in to Processes on Windows upon hitting Ctrl Alt Delete will show you what all is currently using RAM. If you're wanting a file explorer type thing of what's on there at the time, I don't think that's possible. But as wolfe said, don't mess with it.
